"In His Presence"

One of the most powerful men in the world today is the President of the United States of America.  His influence and renown are global.  All over the world, people can see him on television and read about him in newspapers and magazines.  They can visit his website to find out what he is doing and/or what he has done.

Yet, with all this visibility, very few have direct access to him.  Of those who actually see him at a speech or event, fewer still are able to even say hello to him directly.  Of that number, even less is invited to converse with him in a group.  Still, fewer are the number of individuals privileged to speak with the President of the United States of America one-on-one.

However, there is One infinitely greater than the greatest man on the face of the earth.  It is up to Him that even the president must look.  It is unto Him that even he must come.  It is before this very One that all the nations of the world and also their kings and presidents must honor.

For the most high God, unto Whom all things must bow, sits upon a throne of grace unto which every saint under heaven is allowed to come.  (Heb. 4:16)   To Him Who sits on the Throne of thrones; Who is the very King of kings; Lord of lords and Presidents of presidents, is the open door of access for all who believe in Him.

How ironic it is that when you cannot reach one on earth, you can reach the One in heaven.  The most visible is also most unreachable…while He Who is invisible is most reachable.

Imagine the president’s President inviting you to come.  If your earthly president will not see you, I will see you.  If you cannot take your matter to him, you can bring it directly to Me.  That is what God says.  That is what prayer does.  It takes the matter directly to God.

There is no worldly middle-man.  In Christ Jesus, you can come directly to God when you want.  You don’t need an appointment.  You won’t be stopped and searched to see if you have a weapon or suspicious device.  Not even an angel will approach you to see if your intentions are right.  When you decide to come to God in prayer, the Way in Christ is already open for you.  Heaven awaits your visit…the atmosphere is inviting.  The Spirit is one of anticipation and excitement that you are there.

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.  And let him that heareth say, Come.  And let him that athirst come.  And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”   (Rev. 22:17)

When you come to God’s throne, you do not have to wait in line for Him to finish speaking with someone else.  The moment you arrive into His presence, you are welcomed and immediately received.  It is like no one is there in the throne room with you.  It is just you and God.  His eyes and ears are open to your prayers of faith in Him.

You can take your time…Say exactly what you need to say.  Hang around and enjoy your Lord…even without saying a word, if you like.  In fact, He likes it when you just fellowship with Him (not necessarily asking for a thing) just enjoying His presence.

In fact, you can draw close…closer…That’s right.  Come on up to the seat of the throne, if you like.  He says,  “if you draw nigh to me, I’ll draw nigh to you.”  (Jas. 4:8)   Nothing is stopping you.  You can come closer…He doesn’t mind…He really doesn’t.  Truth be told, He truly enjoys your being there.  He has wanted to be close to you for a long time.  So come on.  That’s right.  Sit down…right there in His lap, if you like.  It is alright.  He is big enough to hold you.  You are His child; He is your daddy.  He is all you need.  Can’t you see that?  I mean…there’s nothing like Him, is there?  Wow!  It is wonderful to be with the One to Whom you belong.  It is your place.  You are at home.  Everything is alright here.

Now the problems…the problems.  What happened to the problems I was going to bring to Him?  They all seemed to fade away in His presence.  It is wonderful!  He is the answer to all things, often without your even asking Him.  “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”   (Isa. 65:24)  How wonderful is your God.  Who can know Him this way, except those who abide in His presence?  “Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place.”   (1Chr. 16:27)

Ah…you’re sitting there with Him…just enjoying and appreciating Him.  He is even more than just the President of presidents and King of kings.  He is your close and caring heavenly Father.

You arise gently, concluding your time and returning to your place.  No secret service agents escort you out.  No time-clock says hurry, you have to leave…Or, you have spent too much time here already…Or, there are so many others waiting to speak to God.  None of this is present!  Instead, your soul is revived.  You are uplifted.  Your day takes on a new dimension.  You have been in His holy presence; and, His presence is inside you.  Whatever you face is now faced with faith.  You have just come from the King.  Where you were weak, He has made you strong.  Where you were afraid, He has given you strength.  Where you were in doubt, He has given you courage.  Where you were blind, He has made you to see.  For your distress, He has given you hope.

Oh…how lovely He is…truly a supplier of all your needs.  (Phi. 4:19)   God has returned the fight in you…the commitment to stand and go forth in Him.  You return later in prayer and find, like before, He is right there at the same place.  He has not moved.  “For I am the LORD, I change not.”   (Mal. 3:6)  You are blessed to know that He is  “…the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”   (Heb. 13:8)

It is so good to talk to Him and tell Him what you need.   You can cry aloud if you must.  Don’t hold back.  Take up His very own Words, His own written promises which He honors above His own Name,  (Psa. 138:2)   and speak them back to Him in faith.  You will soon discover that He is drawn to faith.  He connects with your faith in Him.  You will see your life connecting with His.  You will find yourself thinking…I like this; I need this; I will pray again and again.  Prayer will readily become second-nature to you.  When something happens, you won’t even think about it…You’ll pray.  The Lord is simply a prayer away.  Your thoughts may well come to this:  For as sure as the sun does shine (and I look for it to be there); so also do I look to my heavenly Father in prayer.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life:  in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”   (Psa. 16:11)

I am where I belong.  I belong in His presence.  This is home.  I come here every day for help; for answers; for encouragement; for strength and guidance; for restoration; for direction; for God’s armor and might in battles.  I sometimes come to my Father on behalf of others and ask His help for them.  Often, I come alone.  I also join together with brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer.  It is amazing how so many of us can come together in spirit in that throne room and every heart is heard by Him…All of us together with God.  Wow!

I would be so honored to meet the President of the United States of America.  However, if I never meet him, I will have lost nothing…having been much more blessed to have abided in the presence of God.

“I asked him to give me the prayers He wants me to pray and to give or withhold anything according to his plan for me.  Nothing is too big to ask of Him, not even an ocean lot.  It is God’s business to decide if it is good for me.  It is my business to obey Him.”   Elisabeth Elliot
